History

In 1989 several people in Wonthaggi, with an interest in woodturning and other woodcrafts got together and formed the Wonthaggi Woodcrafters.

Home workshops and the Technical School were first used for demonstrations and learning sessions. Now the Club has a well equipped workshop at the Bass Coast Adult Education Centre.

Member interests include Scroll Sawing, Wood Carving, Pyrography, Basic Carpentry/Cabinet Making and Woodturning.

Throughout the year the club gives public demonstrations in woodturning, scroll sawing and pyrography and runs toy making sessions, “Kids Corner”, where children have the opportunity, under guidance, to make wooden articles of their own.  The club also conducts sales activities for the general public at various venues in the Bass Coast Area, including our popular Xmas Shop in Wonthaggi, every December, the Cultural Centre at Cowes during the Easter and Melbourne Cup weekends. Other activities include a sale activity at Newhaven Hall, together with the Patchworkers of Phillip island and toy making activity at Churchill Island every Easter Weekend.
